PERSONAL REFLECTIONS:
This wasn't our next stop but we found that things were closing up early on
a Sunday afternoon, so we high tailed it over to this monument.
One of the nice things about knowing a bit of history, when
you turn to your sister and tell her some fact, she's actually a little
impressed. She was as surprised as I had been to find that the Pony Express was
in existence such a short time. I've
talked to others and the common impression is that Pony Express was this long
lasting period in our history but I'm not sure why there seems to be this
collective belief. And Folsom wasn't a
stop on the western route for its full existence...it went to Placerville
after a year.
The day winding down, we started making our way back to the
car, but not without a stop at Snooks Chocolate Factory...and $28.00 later
walked out.
From here, we drove to the site of the Chung Wah Cemetery
but were unable to locate it so that's a story for another day. It was a full afternoon
and we were ready to go home.
I want to take a moment and thank my sister. Not only for
coming with me today, but for allowing me to put up with her for all these
years. Ok, maybe sometimes it's the
other way around...thank you Dana!
** Yes, that's Dana in the picture above.
