Walter White House & Carwash - Albuquerque, New Mexico

DATE:  July 5, 2015

SITE:  Walter White House & Carwash

LOCATION:  3828 Piermont Dr., & 9516 Snowheights Circle, Albuquerque, Bernalillo Co., New Mexico

PERSONAL REFLECTIONS:

BreakingBad was a drama on TV from 2008 to 2013. The story was about Walter White, a high school chemistry teacher with cancer, who, along with a former student, Jesse Pinkman, start producing and distributing crystal meth of the highest quality...pure, blue. Walter, knowing he is dying, is trying to set his family up for when he eventually passes.

The show was and still is wildly popular and holds a Guinness World Record as the highest rated show of all time. If you haven’t seen it, make sure you do.

Dirk and I are sitting in a brew pub in Albuquerque, New Mexico and we start looking on RoadTrippers for what's around and we see not only Walter Whites house, but the car wash, Jesse's place and several other locations used in the show.

Dirk's very excited because he is often told he looks like Walter White; so of course, we need to get a picture of him in front of the house.

RoadTrippers reviewers warn of the homeowner. Says she is really mean and sits in front of her house basically telling people to go away. Dirk is undeterred!  This is a public street, get a picture and move on. I mean, you give the ok for your home or business to be on a TV show; you have to expect people to show up to see.

Now Dirk has seen all 5 seasons but I still need to get through the last season. That hasn't stopped me from knowing the ultimate fate of the characters. I’m just that way. Knowing the end doesn’t ruin a story for me because I like the details of how they got there.

There’s an interesting thing about the characters in the show. I can’t think of one that I rooted for through all the seasons. Even Walter White became very unlikeable as he sunk further and further into the criminal world.

Dirk and I pull in front of the house and sure enough...there sits the homeowner. I hesitate getting out of the car, but not Dirk. He's quickly out of the car and speaking to the owner. Dirk tells her that he wants a picture because people tell him
he looks like Walter White and her response was that, no, he had the wrong hat.

Ends up the woman is actually decent and it's because people come up on her property and are rude. She said people show up 24 hours a day, seven days a week. I look around and the neighborhood is quiet and we are the only ones around. Hmmm, really? We talked to her for about 1/2 hour and said our thank you and goodbyes.

As we were getting into our car, this huge RV...and I mean big, pulls in front of us, blocking our way out. Two people jump out and walk towards the house. Another car makes a U-Turn near us; park and the people get out.

Ok, maybe she's right.

Afterwards, we drove to the carwash site and it looks just like the one in the show that Walter and Skyler White buy in order to move some of the money around. It's closed so we get out, take a few pictures and head out of town.
